3 Stars 2017 Week 38

  1. Ed Rush NBA Basketball Referee
  2. Sean Raphael Hockey Referee
  3. Flying Ball Delivery

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 37 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

The Flying Ball Delivery at the Portuguese Cup earlier this year is a popular post. At least by the 101 standards anyways. 🙂 I was heavily influenced in this selection by the followers on Twitter. It is a repost from a few months ago so I was a bit surprised to see it get a few retweets although I suppose I shouldn’t have been. It was one of my personal favourite posts so why not? It is an interesting peak at future possibilities. I suggest a look at my own vision of the game of Quidditch in the years to come, but why not football? Soaring above the play would certainly provide an enhanced view of the field for the referees. Soccer, rugby, fieldhockey are all sports that could benefit from a higher perspective for the officials. The Flying Ball Delivery guy on a drone gets 3rd Star for this week.

2nd Star

Sean Raphael is a Hockey Referee in my home province of British Columbia in Canada. He is also the boss of the BC Hockey Referees and he was talking to the RIC’s (Referees in Chief) of Okanagan hockey in Salmon Arm last weekend. I attended that meeting to hear him speak and learn what I could from him while he was in Salmon Arm. That pile of hair at the front of the photo is the back of my head. We talked a lot about recruiting, training and retaining referees. Sean Raphael, Hockey Referee, did a great job trying to teach me and others to guide the future officials of the game, and is 2nd Star for this week.

1st Star

Ed Rush Sr. is a Basketball Referee. He spent over 35 years with the NBA and is a wealth of knowledge regarding all things basketball. Senior Rush is very active teaching and sharing his experiences with all levels of the game. His energy and willingness to give back to the game is kind of a special thing to watch in the business of sports officials, and I think that basketball referees should do everything they can to get some time with the man. Junior Rush shares his love, respect and admiration for his Dad in this post. Ed Rush Sr., Basketball Referee, is 1st Star for Week 38.

The 3 Stars for Week 13 2017

  1. Perry Barber Baseball Umpire
  2. Jeffrey Anderson Basketball Referee
  3. Caris Hedd Bowen Rugby Referee

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 13 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

The BBC had a very inspiring news feature about Caris Hedd Bowen this week. Bowen is a young mum who has beaten her cancer and has used the experience to grow and inspire others. She chose to become a rugby referee as a way to accomplish her goals and encourage others at the same time. For her drive, ambition and leadership, Caris Hedd Bowen, Rugby Referee, gets 3rd Star for the week.

2nd Star

It is March Madness time for NCAA Referees as the future stars of the game gather in Phoenix to determine which school becomes the reigning champions. Basketball referee, Jeffrey Anderson, is a veteran of many March Madness tournaments, and this year, with his hometown behind him, he has made it to the Final Four round. For this selection, Jeffrey Anderson is the 2nd Star.

1st Star

Perry Barber is a Baseball Umpire who has been a champion for female umpires for a long time. What an amazing accomplishment for Barber who, after 32 years in behind the plate, was given the job of Umpire Manager and became responsible for an entire team of professional level female umpires. For her leadership and persistence, Perry Barber is the 1st Star for Week 13 in 2017.

2017 3 stars Week 09

  1. Anne Panther Basketball Referee
  2. Alan Baser Sailing Umpire
  3. Best Parking Spots

These are the 3 Stars selected for this week. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

This post extolling the benefits of becoming a referee made me laugh out loud. A little stoic cynicism is almost a job requirement for sports officials. This job perk of having a Reserved Parking spot is called ‘living the dream’ to most referees and umpires. In reward for the laugh, getting The Best Parking Spot gets 3rd Star for the week.

2nd Star

Alan Baser is an Olympic class sailing umpire and judge who has been working hard to share his experiences with potential umpires of the future. As one of the #RefsofRio group, Officials101 has been following Baser’s career and for this latest success at raising the profile of sailing umpires and sharing his story, Alan Baser gets 2nd Star for Week 09.

1st Star

Anne Panther is the only female referee in EuroLeague Basketball. Making it to the top levels as an official in any sport is a challenge that requires a lot of hard work and dedication. For the women who are breaking down barriers in the male dominated sports world, Anne Panther is a leader, a beacon of hope for young girls who are fighting the good fight, and this week’s #1 Star.

  1. Alison Hughes Tennis Umpire
  2. Rasta Rasivhenge Rugby Referee
  3. Umpire Cake

3rd Star

Umpire Cake. This FIH welcome cake was made to welcome Jason McCracken and Craig Gribble to headquarters as they begin their new international duties.

2nd Star

Rasta Rasivhenge Rugby Referee. Co-winner of the World Rugby Referee of the Year Award, Rasivhenge sits down for an interview and share his enthusiasm and passion for the sport of rugby.

1st Star

Alison Hughes Tennis Umpire. When Serena Williams and Venus Williams made it to the Finals at the Australian Open this week, tournament officials needed one of the best tennis chair umpires to watch over the match. They turned to the British veteran Alison Hughes. From the best seat in the house, she watched Serena beat Venus 6-4, 6-4 for her 23rd Grand Slam title.
