3 Stars 2017 Week 37

  1. Karl Dickson Rugby Referee
  2. Steve Woods NFL Football Umpire
  3. The Unknown Umpire

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 37 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

Looking at this picture of a Baseball Umpire talking to a very young lady player is like holding a purring kitten. I am always on the lookout for ‘feel good’ type posts and this one gives it up in spades. For all the glamour and excitement of professional sports, and the grit and grind of those who are trying to get there, this photo reminds us of the simple joy of the game. Never forget where you came from and treasure all the small moments of the journey. The Unknown Umpire gets 3rd Star this week

2nd Star

Steve Woods is now an NFL Football Umpiree after making his debut in the Broncos and Chargers game the other night. This post shows that there are rookies at every level of officiating. It is important that young referees and umpires believe in themselves and trust in their training and know that being a rookie is an experience that will be felt over and over again as they climb the ranks of their sport. Even when they reach the pinnacle of their game. Steve Woods, Rookie NFL Football Umpire, is 2nd Star.

1st Star

Karl Dickson is a Rugby Referee. He is a former professional player before he took to the whistle a few years ago. Dickson has changed his perspective about officiating and the level of fitness that is required to do the job. I find it interesting to watch players in their transition to becoming an official. Their view of the game is different and they see a whole new world open up for themselves. It becomes a challenge for some of them that gives a similar thrill as playing. It is different of course, but similar. Anyways, I always find it interesting to watch their journey and hear their insights. Karl Dickson is 1st Star for Week 37.

  2. Tom West Baseball Umpire
  3. Robert Byrd Boxing Referee

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 33 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

Robert Byrd is a Boxing Referee who has just been assigned the ring for the August 26th fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. There has been a lot of hype around this fight as it is expected to be the biggest pay per view event in history and each fighter is looking to earn $100 million or more. The 74 year old Byrd will earn about $25,000 and the judges will make about $20K. For getting the prime fight assignment of the year, Robert Byrd, Boxing Referee, is 3rd Star for the week.

2nd Star

Tom West is a Baseball Umpire from Australia. He takes a moment to participate in this great podcast interview. West talks about his journey to become a Major League Baseball Umpire and how his quest has taken him a half a world away from home. Tom West, Baseball Umpire, is 2nd Star this week.

1st Star

Howard Webb is probably one of the most recognizable Football Referees of all time. The former World Cup Referee gives a great podcast interview here talking about a wide variety of interesting topics including his life away from the game and his new job with the MLS. As the man in charge of implementing the VAR Technology for the league, Webb has great insight into the future of soccer in North America and the world. Howard Webb, Soccer Referee, is the 1st Star for Week 32.

  1. John Wright FieldHockey Umpire
  2. Roel van Eert FieldHockey Umpire
  3. George Sosnak Baseball Umpire

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 30 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

George Sosnak was a Baseball Umpire. He lived from 1922 to 1992 and has left an amazing legacy of Folk Art that is unlike anything else ever seen. In a fashion similar to baseball cards, Sosnak would draw pictures of players and their stats on baseballs. It is estimated that he drew on somewhere between 800 and 3000 baseballs and that many of his creations will never see the marketplace as they are proudly displayed in family collections of the players depicted. For sharing this amazing talent and the history of the game, George Sosnak, Baseball Umpire, is 3rd Star for the week.

2nd Star

Roel van Eert is one of 2 retiring FieldHockey Umpires posted by 101 this week. After a 14 year international career that included 84 matches, van Eert worked his final game with Fanneke Alkemade who is one of the top female umpires in world today. Watch the FIH video as Roel shares some of his favourite highlights at World Cups and Olympic Games. Roel van Eert, FieldHockey Umpire, is the 2nd Star this week.

1st Star

John Wright is the other retiring FieldHockey Umpire for the week. After a 22 year career and over 200 matches, Wright has reached legendary status amongst his fellow umpires. The 5 Olympic Games and 4 World Cups he appeared in may have something to do with that. Wright was in the middle for the 2016 Olympic Gold Medal game in Rio de Janeiro, his second gold appearance. A true leader in the sport of fieldhockey, he will surely be missed by many. John Wright, FieldHockey Umpire, is the 1st Star for Week 30.

3 Stars 2017 Week 29

  1. Dan Bellino MLB Baseball Umpire
  2. Jono Bredin Rugby Referee
  3. Michelle Joubert FieldHockey Umpire

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 29 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

Michelle Joubert is an international Fieldhockey Umpire extraordinaire. After a long history at the pinnacle of her profession, Joubert took charge of the 2016 Women’s Olympic Gold Medal match in Rio de Janeiro. Her passion for the sport and knowledge of the game are legendary and it is great to see her hanging out with the future stars and inspiring new dreams. We have a page dedicated to Michelle Joubert here at 101 so you can read up on her later if you like. For sharing her love of the game with those ho count the most, Michelle Joubert is 3rd Star for the week.

2nd Star

Jono Bredin, Rugby Referee that was also once one of the top international Netball Umpires in the world. It created a bit of a stir a couple of years ago, when Bredin announced he was retiring from Netball to focus his attentions on becoming a Rugby Referee. As you can see in this post, things are progressing nicely. For leading the way and showing sports officials that their skills are transferable, and for having the drive and determination to prove it, Jono Bredin, Rugby Referee, Netball Umpire, is 2nd Star.

1st Star

Dan Bellino is an MLB Baseball Umpire. Or is he? A lot of speculation about his true identity after this post was made. Whether it is Bat signals in the sky or Umpire signals on the field, every once in a while a post comes along that is just fun. When that happens, we let you know. For giving me the smile of the week, Batman, er, uh, Dan Bellino, MLB Baseball Umpire, gets the 1st Star.

3 Stars 2017 Week 27

  1. Taka Matsuda Baseball Umpire
  2. Bill White Softball Umpire
  3. Kader Nouni Tennis Umpire

These are the 3 Stars selected for Week 27 in 2017. Maybe you agree and maybe you don’t, but read on below to find out why they were chosen. They were selected from posts that were added somewhere on the Officials101 website in the last 7 days. Stay tuned next week to find out who are the most notable referees, umpires and sports officials in the world today.

3rd Star

When you are so cool you can just hang out at the post for a bit at Wimbledon. Kader Nouni is a Tennis Umpire. When he speaks, Twitter swoons. With a deep, smooth voice, Nouni calls out Love – 30 and people everywhere just melt. It is actually quite a shocking phenomenon as far as the Officials101 search feeds are concerned, to see the love that tennis fans have for the man. Not just the fans either. A few minutes on youtube will show some of the top players in the game gushing and blushing when Kader Nouni calls their name. For having that umpire swagger and just owning it, Kader Nouni gets 3rd Star. If you want more Wimbledon Umpire and Tennis Posts you can find them all here.

2nd Star

Bill White is a Softball Umpire who is having an impact on the lives of young people. Although this is a common trait amongst sports officials, it is normally done in small quiet ways where it is hardly noticed by others. In this case, we get an chance to see the type of small acts that are done by special leaders throughout the sports world. This was a great example of a sports official who makes a difference and yet remains faceless. Bill White, Softball Umpire, gets 2nd Star for being someone who cares and takes a moment to show it.

1st Star

Taka Matsuda is a Baseball Umpire who is working hard to become the first umpire from Japan to work in the MLB. This is a great article that shows the type of grit and determination that some sports officials need to possess to make the long climb to the top. Matsuda not only left his home to pursue his dreams in the United States, but he also goes to Australia for their season as well. If you are like this guy, you will probably be alright in the world. Taka Matsuda, Baseball Umpire, is 1st Star for Week 27.
