Resources and Collection
In this collection you will find links to umpire contacts, associations and curling events around the world. Curling is a fascinating sport that is closely related to the bowls games. It is very similar to a game of shuffleboard that is played on a sheet of ice. The strategy in the game and the ‘edge of the seat’ intensity is also very similar experience to watching snooker, pool or billiards. Everybody holds their breath, watching, waiting… waiting… oh, it is just mesmerizing!
It is believed that curling was invented in Scotland around the time of Christopher Columbus. The first formal clubs weren’t created until about the early 1700’s when the Kilsyth Curling Club was formed. The club still exists today. The World Curling Federation, which is the international ruling body, was originally formed as committee at the Royal Caledonian Curling Club.
